Arafat Accommodation

Arafat is located approximately 20-km to the. southest of Makkah in Saudi Arabia. The location marked on the map will be used as a detailed site plan for the proposal design of the Arafat Project.

The proposal design finds its starting points in distinctive elements of Islamic architecture and the traditional architectural style of Saudi Arabia. The form of the proposed design is the result of creation and inspiration from the typology of courtyard housing. an essential element which represents the core of all Islamic-Arab houses.

GREEN SPACES

Green spaces improve air quality, reduce noise and enhance biodiversity. Green spaces also moderate: temperatures during hot periods and provide cool and shaded arcas.

Green roofs reduce the amount of heat entering a building, so there is less of a need for heating or cooling thus reducing energy costs.

WATER

Water is an essential detail of Arab culture when building a house or gardening, furthermore use of water in courtyard adds moisture to create comfortable cond tions for the site plannin

SHADED AREAS

Terraces and some parts the courtyard are treated as shaded areas due to the high temperatures.

CUBE DESIGN

The modular design allows the cubes to be flexibly arranged into different shapes. The cubes are considered to be fire resistant, easy to implement, highly efficient and a safe system.

MATERIALS

Base materials used in this proposal design are colored concrete and glass. The color of the concrete is determined by the Al-Maeshari guideline.

ACCESS

There are four entries aroud the location for an easy access for the pilgrims. The two main entrances are accessed from the main street and the other two entrances are accessed from the side streets.
